Cystograptus Hundt, 1942 emend. Jones & Rickards, 1967
"Rhabdosome rectangular in cross section, thecae with
double sigmoid (ogee)curvature, apertures somewhat
everted; point of origin of median septum variable; sicula
typically elongate; vane structure commonly present
distally on virgula."
(Bulman 1970)
Occurence: Cystograptus is known from the Lower Silurian
of Europe, Asia (Malaya) and North America (Arctic).
Cystograptus penna (Hopkinson).
From Jones & Rickards.
To the right is a proximal part of the
rhabdosome of Cystograptus vesiculosus
(Nicholson) from the lower Llandovery of the South Urals as
seen on a rock surface in 'pseudobiscalariform', because of
characteristic compression.
Legend:
a - apex of the prosicula;
m - lateral edge of the median septum;
n - space between two median septa surrounding the
nematularium;
p - point of probable onset of the membranous
nematularium, overlapping the apex of prosicula,
s - aperture of the sicula;
w -wall of the sicula.
From Urbanek, Koren' & Mierzejewski.
